[identity profile] iibnf.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] sinpozium
Now that we are fine tuning the programming for sinpOZium (which makes this the first year we've had any sort of formal programming - it's a bit of an experiment...), would you all like to comment here and let us know what are your favourite fandoms?

The most popular ones are the ones we'd like to try and get panels or discussion groups for (but this doesn't mean we don't want smaller fandoms represented as well - these we'd like to see covered under the pimping sessions).

We are, in particular, looking for someone to lead a discussion, or run a panel, or something, for Due South as we know there are going to be a lot of fans of this show there. Would you like to stand up and tell everyone how much you like Due South?

Please comment in this post with the fandom in which you are most interested!

How about a how to write a realistic Gay bondage and wax play scene. As there are many slashers out there who write in the genre, but are unaware of the M/M dynamics and physical limitations involved. (You know me, pet hate there) As well as a defemminisation of the submissive role forum. I have all the porn and practical experience to help run one.

I don't know if I could run a discussion group for due South. But I heartily agree there should be a due South something. So if no-one else wants to do it, I will. Bear in mind I have never been to a con before, let alone done anything like this, so I am a complete virgin novice.

I love Due South and think everyone in the world should watch it. I'd be willing to babble incoherently in a group, but wouldn't feel up to leading one. I would really love to see a Wilby Wonderful screening (I could bring the vid) since it has two of the three main actors in it from DS (along with almost every other Canadian actor - Sandra Oh, yum), and I want to watch it with other squeeing fan girls.

I've never been to one of these things, so I'm pretty happy to be led...

I'm coming to meet some of the people I've written to and read for the last couple of years, so I like the idea that you had about people bringing stories - I'd love some of the writers attending to bring their own work (any fandom!) and talk about the work and the fandom. I'm also curious about people's entry into fandom, how it's changed their lives (if it has!), and what appeals to them in a fandom. Heaven knows I need another fandom like a hole in the head, but I'm willing to be drawn to the dark side.

Fandoms I'm into:
Due South
Harry Potter
The Sentinel
Homicide: Life on the Streets (new to this - I've only seen the first season)
Queer as Folk US

I have dvd's for most of these shows and could bring them along if needed/wanted. I've also got a large selection of movies and tv series that Paul Gross and Callum Keith Rennie are in (ahem, Wilby Wonderful is one of these, did I mention that movie?) which I'd be happy to bring if people would like.

Just let me know how interested people are and I'll pack them up...

I'm into Due South, with a smidgen of Buffy on the side. (And I'd love to see Wilby Wonderful!)

Am happy to help run something. Am also very interested in talking about writing slash -- would anyone else be interested, say, in a discussion of the challenges of writing US shows/for a US market/crossing the cultural divide? (Is there much to say about it?) Or, um, sustaining UST in a story? Or something else writing-y? :)

I'm also into due South but not having ever been to a con, I'd have no idea about how a panel works.

But, I think [livejournal.com profile] china_shop's idea is a good one. Writing in US Speak /
/Cultural divides

Canon v Fanon - although that can be incredibly controversial.

It's too early in the morning for me to be coherent. But I'll be thinking about this.

Gensomaden Saiyuki
Peacemaker
Tactics
Stargate SG-1
Harry Potter

I mainly write for Saiyuki, but I read for all the rest. :D I'd love to lead or organize a panel about writing slash for anime genres. :)

I appear to be alone here, but my primary fandom is Smallville, with related DC-verse canon. I'd be happy to bring dvds and good fic and seduce willing victims to the cause. I also love Due South and would happily participate in most things to do with that.

As for discussion, let me heartily second [livejournal.com profile] china_shop's suggestion of anything writing related, also [livejournal.com profile] engenda's canon/fanon idea - I'm sure we're all mature enough that we can discuss it - we don't need to necessarily agree. I anticipate that might be one of the strengths of this being a pan-fandom event - different interests, povs, etc.

My only fandom is Harry Potter.

However, I'd be interested in discussions about Stargate SG1 (though the only fanfiction for that I've read is Icarus's).

I like Buffy and Angel, though I'm not interested in slashing them (like, Willow/Tara is canon, right?). I hope to bring a Willow/Tara fic my sister is writing, if she's finished and happy with it by then.

I do plan to see what all the fuss about Due South is about (I don't watch much TV - I worked out the other day I haven't turned it on all year).

Some discussion of writing concerns would be very much to my taste (though there might be more fruitful topics than canon vs fanon; it seems to devolve rapidly into 'your canon is really only fanon; I write canon').

The Reading Corner is a great idea.

Thought: would it be helpful/fun to have a discussion of beta reading? Though we'd need to have permission before discussing real examples, we can always use betas' comments on our own fics.

This isn't about a fandom, but it's something I'd be interested in hearing about - icon-making or even any sort of manipulation of pictures for fannish purposes. I'd live to hear some of the basics from someone with a little artistic ability.

We're hoping to force Hannah into discussing icon-making tips and hints. Thanks for the suggestion! :)

Pop, pop, pop. Although, there's already a fair contingent of us coming. :) Dare we even go near the RPS thing? And I am in no way putting up my hand, I suck at this stuff.

Of course! I even made suggestions. I'm sick, that's my excuse.

It'd be interesting to do something on expanding band slash - My Chemical Romance and Franz Ferdinand seem to be pretty hot at the moment, but then I suppose Duran Duran and Savage Garden stuff has been around for ages.
