Firstly, apologies for the lateness of this post! [livejournal.com profile] erilyn and I meant to post right after Sinpozium but the time somehow got away from us /o\

A huge thank you everyone for coming and making Sinpoz awesome - both for us to run and to attend. We both really appreciate you all, and we hope you had as good a time as we did <3

(If you have any comments about Sinpoz, you're welcome to let us know here or via email.)

This post is also for you guys to post anything you'd mentioned to other people (e.g. links to your pimps, recs or anything else you were going to let someone know about), or ask any follow up questions (e.g. "hey what was that thing again...?") you may have.

Finally a reminder about some upcoming events!
* A bunch of us meet up on the first Saturday of the month from 3pm-6/7pm, at the Sanctuary Hotel (where we had dinner). That's this Saturday! It's very informal - we try and post reminders on the Sinpoz twitter, but if not you can always ask there to check if anyone else is showing up that day.
* Our sister con in Wellington, New Zealand is gearing up for the 4th & 5th of October and you can find more about at [livejournal.com profile] get__together

The weekend is approaching \o/

Draft timetable
For your reference, draft timetable - presenters, please let us know if there are any conflicts or other issues. As every year, we anticipate a flexible schedule, which is why there are no set times! If there's something you can't do after all (or a last minute addition!), just let us know.

Registration
erilyn & I will aim to be there around 9, but things won't get underway till 9:30. We'll provide you with a name sticker so that I won't be forced once again to yell across a crowded room "hey you, person that I know" to someone I've known for years.

Venue
Sydney Central YHA. Corner of Pitt Street and Rawson Place, Sydney. We're in the function room on level 9.
Take the lift to level 8 and then - we're sorry - the steep flight of stairs to level 9. The pool is on your left, the corridor leading to the room is on your right. If you do require lift access, please let us know as this can be arranged, but the hostel needs notice.

Getting there
Public Transport: Nearest train station is Central (about 3 mins walk). Nearest train station to dinner is Town Hall (10 mins walk from venue, 3 mins walk from dinner). Note that the Airport line has some track work this weekend.
Car: If you're coming to dinner (or don't mind a walk), we suggest parking in either Cinema Parking ($12? no website, you can enter via kent st on the left), or Town Hall House ($10 if you pre book).

Food
Lunch: You're welcome to bring your own lunch and/or snacks, but see also the map below for nearby fast food to bring back to the room if you choose. At least one person will be in the room during lunch.
Dinner: Please take our dinner poll if you haven't already - the Sanctuary is pretty flexible but it's good to have an idea.

Here's the local area map we provided last year about places near by - we very much hope it's still current!

Weather
We can't guarantee this of course, but the forecast is 11-20 with a few showers both days. Bring your umbrella!

Please let us know if we've missed anything! See you soon :D

Hey folks, just some quick reminders! If you haven't already, please:

- register (so we know that you're coming)

- complete the attendee survey (so we know a little something about you and your fandoms etc)

- volunteer/suggest content! It doesn't have to be something you want to do, feel free to suggest discussion topics/activities that you'd like to see even if you don't want to run it yourself. And fandom pimps don't have to be elaborate video presentations, you can just want to talk about it for a few minutes and share the love.

If you have any questions about any aspect, please feel free to comment or email us at sinpozium(at)gmailDOTcom :)

It's just over 2 months until Sinpozium 2014 \o/ While half the fun is just getting to hang out with other fans, we do like to have some semi-structured content planned in advance. We need people to lead discussions, pimp slashy fandoms and more, so the big question is - what do you wanna do at Sinpozium?

++ Fandom pimps will probably be limited to a maximum of half an hour (if you want to do less, that's fine, and they don’t need to be fancy). We strongly recommend keeping video portions of pimps (if you wish to include them) to only about 15-20 minutes - this should be enough to give a feel for the fandom, anything longer and interest can really start to lag (always leave 'em wanting more!). If you can get someone else to look over a presentation, a second pair of eyes really helps, particularly if you’re having problems trimming it.

But we can't emphasis enough - you don't need to be a video editing expert to do this and you don't have to do a long presentation - you can take 5-10 min to tell us why Fandom X rocks, and show us 1 clip if you want (or do a slideshow, or whatever suits the source material). Your love for your fandom is the important thing, and if you need help with technical side making some clips or something, just holler!

++ Presentations/videos/slideshows will be shown via a laptop hooked up to a data projector, so will need to be brought on disc/USB stick/external hard drive (we don't want to be switching laptops around if we can avoid it). A variety of file formats will be acceptable (but if it can be played by VLC, that's a good indication it will be ok).

++ Suggestions for games are welcome, but from experience, they need to be simple and interactive. Participation is strongly encouraged but not mandatory in slash pictionary, but no one is excused on the grounds they can't draw (that's the point).

++ New or old, it doesn't matter - some of the most interesting fandom pimps we've seen at past Sinpoziums were for shows from before we were born, take us down nostalgia lane from 10 years ago, or introduce us to the hot new thing.

++ Discussion topics that are multi-fandom are particularly good (as they're inclusive). Topics might range from serious discussions of writing or fannish trends, to which characters look the best in tight jeans. Lengths will be 20-60 minutes, depending on topics, number of suggestions and structure of final timetable. For example...
- We believe people found the tech panel in previous years helpful/interesting, so please comment if there's topics you'd like to see addressed (using sites, gadget recs, what are indispensable plugins/hacks etc)
- A few years ago we had a fun discussion where various people pimped book fandoms/books of slashy interest, and may do it again if there's interest. Since these are often small fandoms, it can be a great way to lure more people in, or at least introduce them to a new author. Please let us know if you want to participate, and what book you'd like to talk about.

++ Suggestions for discussions/panels are more than welcome, even if you don't feel like leading the discussion yourself. If you're having a complete mental blank, I find reading about other fannish events and cons can really get me thinking about what I'd like to participate in.

++ Vidshow - more info to come later, but there will be one co-ordinated, but you're of course free to use vids during fandom pimps etc.

Please don't be nervous if you've never done something like this before, it's not gonna be a HUGE group of people (and no one is allowed to bite without permission), and we're happy to help if you want to do a pimp but aren't sure how to go about it. Just ask!

And remember, if you don't volunteer and/or suggest, you don't get to complain afterwards! :) We'll try and incorporate as much as possible from all the volunteers/suggestions, but the final timetable will be based on what we have found has worked at previous events and think is the best possible mix of everyone's interests. If there’s something you’d like to do that doesn’t seem like it’d fit with these guidelines, talk to us about it, and we’ll see what we can figure out.

[livejournal.com profile] erilynand [livejournal.com profile] alasen will be at the Sydney Slashers meet up on Saturday 6th of April if you'd like to brainstorm in person! (If you're local and haven't been to the meetup, a bunch of us hang out and talk about whatever comes to mind on the first saturday of each month, from 3pm to about 6pm. Sanctuary Hotel in Kent St, City (behind Event Cinemas). You'll find us to the left of the entrance!)

Thanks to those who responded to the poll about dates. The results were basically split 50/50 in terms of preferences, and we can confirm that Sinpozium 2014 will be held at the Sydney Central YHA on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June.

This is the same venue as last year. Please note: this is a long weekend for most of Australia, but not New Zealand (sorry guys! hope you can still make it).

We'll open up registration soon, but in the mean time, please start thinking about fandoms you might want to pimp (or request for others to pimp), discussion topics, activities etc.

Please leave a comment or contact us at sinpozium(at)gmail.com if you have any questions.
