Moderators Needed
Jan. 20th, 2005 09:07 amI'm putting together the timetable for sinpOZium and it's clear we need a bunch of people to help us mod some chats.
Moderating a chat is really, really easy. You just sit there and let people talk, and join in when you want, just as if it was unmoderated, but you just give people the occasional topic to chat about if they stall (otherwise things can take a while to get started), and maybe bring people back if they go too far off track.
I'm doing two chats, one on Harry Potter and one on Squicks and Kinks.
edgehd is modding one on classic spy TV (Professionals, Man from Uncle, etc). If you've been to a sinpoz before you know just how casual and easy these things are.
You are not expected to do any public speaking in front of a group! Have no fear!
Suggested topics we have so far include:
Live Journal and its impact on fandom.
Kirk/Spock - old school fandom.
Incest as the new slash.
RPS - intro to LOTRIPS and pop, etc.
Or, you can come forward with an idea of your choice. Or I can give you the Harry Potter chat if you like, and I'll do something else. We're that easy!
(Otherwise, I'll end up doing them, and you know you'll be utterly sick of the 'Everybody Tolerates Bernice' show bloody quickly).
We are also interested in anyone with any other ideas for things they'd like to do. Such as introduce us to a new fandom, or an old fandom you love, using videos or displays, or just talk about it. We put a loose 15 minute time limit on that, though.
grey_evil_twin is doing her traditional BDSM chat, and
tboy has said she'd like to do a writing festival in short bursts over the weekend.
If you have any thing you'd like to do, up to and including doing a pornographic hand puppet display, please jump in. It's not scary, it's a whole lot of fun!

M*A*S*H
The Boondock Saints
I'd love to be involved in modding a chat - right now the LJ one sounds good. If I think of anything else I'll sing out.

Date: 2005-01-19 10:54 pm (UTC)Oh, and we NEED people to push Boondock Saints. Please please please show us clips of Willem Defoe in drag. Please! (Love that bit).
I think we have a few MASH Slash fans (Ashelliong, for example). And I like Frank Burns. Frank Burns/Worms.
I'll put you down for LJ modding. I ended up the default mod for an LJ panel at Bascon - it's an easy topic to mod, people either have strong opinions, or no idea and seek information, so it's a good one.

S'up to you, though. It's YOUR con! (Don't I sound like an American used car sales person here?) So it's whatever you want to do.

Date: 2005-01-20 07:44 am (UTC)I'd be really interested in any sessions on writing. Some sort of topics I'd love to hear discussion on include:
* what makes for supportive writing environments
* constructive criticism and how not to take it personally
* writing motivations and methodologies
* drabbles/ficlets/one-shots/multi-chaptered fics - motivations/skill sets/sustainability
* plot vs PWP
If I can think of anything else, I'll certainly post it up.

Date: 2005-01-20 08:54 am (UTC)You could break them down into smaller topics if you think people would keep talking and talking too long. For these big issues I'm currently putting aside an hour to an hour and a half for each thing, but that's really flexible.

Date: 2005-01-20 09:24 am (UTC)- Most vilified female characters in fandom/fiction (Cassandra, HL; Cassie, Sentinel; Victoria, DS; Anne, Pros), the way women are written on shows vs the way they are perceived by audience
- Most traumatised characters in shows/fiction
- Mixed Messages - when your source materials (books and films) conflict
- Why some fandoms stay active vs others that die with the show, cycles of reviving interest
- Who gets their gear off the most (QAF not included), and who never does
- Best and worst dvd releases
- OTPish fandoms vs multipairing, How to cope if yours isn't the OTP, do you tend to go for
Some of these certainly aren't big serious topics *g*.
