Book pimp which there wasn't time for at the con: The Flight of the Heron, story of a friendship between a Highland chieftain and an English officer during the 1745 Jacobite Rising. Pre-dates Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series (which bears an uncanny resemblance to it, except that FotH is better-written) by seventy years or so.
