Three months until Sinpozium!

It's going to be a great weekend. So far, 24 people have registered, and hopefully there'll be even more soon.( attendees )
But before June, there are some things we need to do.
1. Register if you haven't already. It's only $40 for the weekend, and you can pay by cash, cheque or direct deposit (contact me for payment details - erilyn@livejournal.com). If you can't register yet, but are interested in coming, please let me know as it helps us plan.
2. Book a room at the YWCA if you are planning to stay there. If you want help finding roommate(s), we'll do our best.
3. Planning activities - Sinpozium is about having fun with other fans, it's an informal gathering rather than a formal convention. We are going to try and put together a program in advance, but it will be treated flexibly on the day. So, what do you want to do? It's time to start suggesting and volunteering :)
- what fandoms would you like people to introduce/promote/celebrate? Which would you like to do? We're suggesting people keep fandom intros to about 15 minutes, and then if there's a lot of interest, we can watch/do more with it. Everyone should get a chance to show off their fandom, but it keeps things being just one whole episode of something after another. Bring along your favourite bit(s), and/or just talk about the source and fandom.
- what things would you like to discuss/have panels on? Which would you like to lead the discussion in? This doesn't take a lot of preparation or to do much at the time, just to participate and keep things going.
- Is there anything in particular you'd like others to bring to watch, or to bring along yourself and share? Might not just be an episode or movie, but bloopers, interviews, parodies, songvids, dvds with interesting extras, actors in funny other roles etc..
- Any other activities you'd like to suggest, or activities/games from previous Sinpoziums (or other cons) you'd like to have again?
Some things that have already been suggested/volunteered include:
* Robin's traditional bdsm talk/demonstration
* Discussions on various topics: livejournal, Harry Potter fandom, supportive writing environments and criticism, incest: the new slash, best and worst dvd releases, which character has the best ass etc. From the sublime to the ridiculous, just suggest whatever you think might be fun/interesting.
* Fandom pimpings, such as House by
hnix, Stargate: Atlantis by
sinbrat, MASH and Boondock Saints by
veronamay, Veronica Mars by me, old school spy shows by
edgehd, comic slash by
slashingthefox, popslash by
alasen. It doesn't have to be a new or rare fandom (though that's certainly good), just something you want to share with everyone. Celebrate old fandoms as well, introduce people to classic slash shows that they may not have seen before. And these aren't locked in stone, in case those people want to change what they're doing.
*
tboy's writing fest
* Slash celebrity heads and pictionary
* Lots of time to get to know/catch up with slashfans from all over NSW, ACT, Victoria and South Australia (so far, we might get some other states represented by June).
* If you need a break from inside ,there's also lots of shopping along Oxford Street and in the city centre, including adult and fetish stores that might be of interest.
For watching things, we're planning on having a 68cm tv, video and dvd that can handle PAL/NTSC/all region/burnt dvds etc. Plus, a laptop that can be connected so that digitised video can be watched on the tv (it can handle most formats, though wmv doesn't always play well). This setup should be handle most video/dvd/vcd/file formats, but of course we can't guarantee it'll definitely play everything.
4. Spread the word about Sinpozium. The more the merrier, so link to this community or the website if you know people who might not be aware of it, or need reminding.
If you have any questions, please ask.
